After 17 years with New York Cares, Gary Bagley has decided to step down as executive director at the end of 2021. Our Board of Directors has formed a search committee and will provide updates on the process as it moves forward. All of us at New York Cares are committed to ensuring a seamless transition and continuing to build upon the great work fostered under Gary's leadership.

The Search Committee of our Board of Directors and our global leadership advisory firm Reynolds Associates (RRA) have received invaluable input from the New York Cares community over the past month. RRA has posted the position and is now accepting applications for this strategic role for our organization.

The New York Cares Board has retained global leadership advisory firm Russell Reynolds Associates (RRA) as a partner in this search and your input is critical. Our community is invited to assist our search process by taking this survey—which will be handled with complete confidentiality and will only be reviewed by RRA and the Search Committee.
A Note From Our Board President (June 25, 2021)
New York Cares’ Board of Directors President Paul J. Taubman shared a note with New York Cares’ staff regarding the news that Executive Director Gary Bagley will be stepping down at the end of 2021. In this note, Mr. Taubman assured staff and the Board that the search for a new executive director would be an inclusive process with a seamless transition, and one that would build on the work of New York Cares under Gary’s leadership.
A Message from Gary: It's Been the Honor of a Lifetime (June 25, 2021)
In June 2021, New York Cares’ longtime Executive Director Gary Bagley announced that he would be stepping down at the end of the year. In a note he shared with staff and the broader New York Cares community including community partners and volunteers, Gary said that his 17-year tenure at New York Cares is “The Honor of a Lifetime…I cannot overstate how proud I am to be associated with one of New York’s most essential organizations, one that makes a tangible, positive difference in the lives of thousands of New Yorkers each day."
